Climate Protection Fellowships at Alexander von Humboldt

Overview
The International Climate Protection Fellowships enable prospective leaders to conduct a research-related project of their own choice during a one-year stay in Germany. Submit an application if you are a prospective leader from a non-European threshold or developing country (see list of countries) working in the field of climate protection and resource conservation in academia, business or administration in your country.

Applicants must provide a clearly visible leadership potential either by experience in a first leadership position or be able to provide appropriate references. They must also have completed their first university degree (Bachelor`s or equivalent academic degree) less than 12 years prior to the start of the fellowship (1 September 2011) with outstanding results.

The Aftermath Project in Photography

The Aftermath Project in Photography

Overview
The Aftermath Project holds a yearly grant competition open to working photographers worldwide covering the aftermath of conflict. The Aftermath Project’s mission is to support photographic projects that tell the other half of the story of conflict — the story of what it takes for individuals to learn to live again, to rebuild destroyed lives and homes, to restore civil societies, to address the lingering wounds of war while struggling to create new avenues for peace. Grant proposals should reflect an understanding of this mission. Proposals may relate to the aftermath of numerous kinds of conflict, not just international wars. The conflict may have been at the community level. It may have been a regional one, such as a rebel insurgency, or it may have been a full-scale war. There is no specific time frame which defines “aftermath,” although in general The Aftermath Project seeks to support stories which are no longer being covered by the mainstream media, or which have been ignored by the media. In general, conflict should be over for a situation to be deemed an “aftermath.” There are specific cases, however, where conflict may have continued for so long, or be the result of an aftermath situation, that they will be considered to be within the scope of The Aftermath Project.

Postdoc in Ultrafast dynamics in quantum dot waveguides at Technical University of Denmark

Overview
The Nanophotonics Theory & Signal Processing group seeks a postdoctoral candidate to work on the experimental characterisation of pulse propagation and ultrafast dynamics in photonic crystal and quantum dot semiconductor waveguides.

The position is part of a large research project (QUEST) financed by the Danish Research Councils, which explores the possibilities of quantum dot technology in combination with slow light effects to enhance the properties of opto-electronic devices or realize novel functionalities. The project comprises modelling, fabrication in DTU`s clean room Danchip and experimental characterisation. The successful candidate will thus work closely together with theoreticians and fabrication experts to explore the physics of these structures as well as their application potential.

[UK] Postdoctoral Researcher in Non-Equilibrium Statistical Mechanics at University of Reading

Postdoctoral Researcher in Non-Equilibrium Statistical Mechanics at University of Reading

Overview
We offer a 3-year post-doctoral position in Non-Equilibrium Statistical Mechanics within the interdisciplinary group led by Dr. Lucarini. The position is funded through the EU-ERC project NAMASTE.

The research will focus on the analysis of the statistical mechanical properties of the climate systems using theoretical tools and models of various degrees of complexity. Attention will be devoted to the rigorous analysis of the response of the system to perturbations. The impact of stochastic forcings will also be addressed.
