Our PhD Program has a duration of three to five years. In the first year the student should take four courses, and spend most time reading the literature and discussing ideas in order to write a Thesis Proposal.

In the following years the student should be totally focused in the research work and writing the final dissertation. This doctoral program was created to present a response to the current demand for high quality PhD researchers in Europe and to adapt the activities of advanced study and research to the current reality in the area of Science and Information Technology.

Within the Freiburg Initiative for Systems Biology (FRISYS, http://frisys.de) a PhD position (TV-L E13 50%) is available. The successful candidate will be associated with the group of PD Dr. Stefan Rensing (http://plantco.de) at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Freiburg.

We expect applications from candidates with
- a master or diploma in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or comparable education
- programming skills, preferably in Perl
- proven ability for team work
- good knowledge of sequence and relational databases
- good English communication skills
Experience with next generation sequencing, grid computing and computer administration is advantageous.
