Overview
The International Institute of Social History (IISH) of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) is located in Amsterdam. Founded in 1935, it is one of the world`s largest documentary and research institutions in the field of social history in general and the history of the labour movement in particular. IISH holds over 3,000 archival collections, some one million printed volumes and about as many audio-visual items. Gathered from across the globe, the IISH collections provide a unique body of materials on social conditions and social movements in many parts of the world.

Overview

PhD position `Whole genome sequence analysis in tomato: Mechanisms of introgression breeding`.
Background: Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR) is worldwide renowned for its research and education in the fields of life sciences, plant improvement and sustainability. Through these activities it aims to make essential contributions to the quality of life. A focus of pioneering research towards increased yields and improved quality is the genome biology of economically valuable crops such as tomato and potato.

The Plant Sciences Group of WUR has an important position in international efforts to elucidate and use the genome sequence of these crops. The Applied Bioinformatics group of the PSG participates in these efforts through next generation sequencing, genome assembly, annotation and extracting biologically relevant knowledge from such genome sequences.

Two PhD studentship in Computer Vision at University of Malaya

Overview
Applications are invited for TWO PhD studentship to work in the Centre of Signal and Image Processing on two different UM funded project entitled "- i) Action recognition using local and dynamic descriptor" and "ii) Linguistic summarisation of human action using pictorial structure."

The post is on the university scale (MYR 18,000 – 28,800); and is open to all nationality. Placement for the post is according to experience and qualifications. However, foreign candidates are required to have at least IELTS Band 6 or TOEFL 550 if their first degree is from a university where English is not the medium of instruction or pass an English proficiency test approved by the University.

The Erasmus Mundus programme “Computer Simulations for Science and Engineering” (COSSE) is a joint initiative of four European universities:
  • KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
  • Technical University of Berlin, Germany
  • Technical University of Delft, the Netherlands
  • Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen- Nürnberg, Germany
COSSE is a two-year master`s programme offering a double degree from two universities. The students enter one of the universities and continue the second year at one of the other institutions in another country. COSSE offers education of the highest international standard as well as a unique experience of meeting different European cultures, languages, climate and nature.

Job Description

The Killam Scholarship and Prize Programmes were established in memory of Izaak Walton Killam through the Will of his wife, Dorothy Johnston Killam, and through gifts made during her lifetime.

The UBC Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are provided annually from the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Fund for Advanced Studies and are available for most fields of research. The fellowships are awarded for a maximum of two years, subject to review at the end of the first year. The number of awards varies between four and six per year.

Samuel P. Hays Research Fellowship

Overview
ASEH created this fellowship to recognize the contributions of Samuel P. Hays, the inaugural recipient of the society`s Distinguished Scholar Award, and to advance the field of environmental history, broadly conceived. The fellowship provides a single payment of $1,000 to help fund travel to and use of an archive or manuscript repository. It is open to practicing historians (either academic, public, or independent). Graduate students are ineligible.

A Ph.D. is not required. Submissions will be accepted June 1 - September 30, 2010, and the recipient will be selected and notified in December 2010 for funding in January 2011.
