The Bloomsbury Colleges PhD Studentships

The Bloomsbury Colleges consortium brings together six University of London colleges comprising Birkbeck (Bbk), Institute of Education (IoE), London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Royal Veterinary College (RVC), School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and The School of Pharmacy (SoP).

The consortium is offering twelve PhD Studentships, each of three years duration, to start October 2011. The Studentships will cover course fees (at the usual level for UK and EU Studentships) and a student stipend. They will encompass a wide range of topics spanning the biomedical and social sciences, reflecting the diversity of disciplines represented in the consortium. The Studentships will be supervised by two of the partner colleges with the lead college indicated after each Studentship.

UNU-IAS Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme

Overview
In April 1996, the UN Secretary–General inaugurated UNU-IAS as an in–house community of scholars mandated to research issues located at the intersection between societal and natural systems. The Institute`s mission is to advance knowledge and to promote learning for policy making to meet the challenges of sustainable development. As an advanced studies institute, UNU-IAS is forward-looking and multidisciplinary.

Since October 2000, UNU-IAS offers Postdoctoral Fellowships for recent PhD graduates to provide them with the opportunity to put the knowledge and expertise acquired during their doctoral research to practical policy-relevant use. So far, over 40 Fellows from some 20 countries have passed through the Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme. Of those completing the programme about one third have been women, and developing country participants have outnumbered developed country participants.

Overview

The JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme was launched in 2002 and is jointly organised by UNU and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

It is designed to provide promising, highly qualified, young researchers the opportunity to conduct advanced research relevant to the main thematic focus of UNU-IAS (Institute of Advanced Studies), located in Yokohama, or UNU-ISP (Institute for Sustainability and Peace), located in Tokyo, and in co-operation with their host researchers at Japanese universities and research institutions. UNU acts as the nominating authority for the JSPS-UNU Programme, and UNU-IAS administers the programme on behalf of UNU in the nominating process.

Overview
The main objective of the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre is to maintain a centre of excellence for research on nuclear science and technology and ionising radiation.

Therefore SCK•CEN will:
  • In priority conduct research with regard to safety of nuclear installations, safe treatment and disposal of nuclear waste, protection of man and environment against radiation, management of fissile and other strategic materials.
  • Conduct research with regard to social implications within the scope of the pursuit of sustainable development.
  • Develop, gather and spread the necessary knowledge through education and communication.
  • Provide all services asked for in the domain concerned, in particular by the nuclear industry, the medical sector and the gouvernment.
  • Make the necessary pluridisciplinary scientific contacts concerning the energy problem.
