PhD student computer science, specialisation `human-computer interaction` at Universiteit Hasselt

Overview

Task description
The research is situated in the domain Human-Computer Interaction. More specific, the applicant will be focusing on Interaction Modelling. This implies investigating and realizing notations, models and tools to design, prototype and ultimately build highly-interactive systems. Examples are the partly automatic realization of the interactive features of virtual environments, interaction with large (multitouch) displays and interaction with distributed ubicomp setups.

Profile Diploma
Master degree in computer science, civil engineer degree in computer science or equivalent. Students that will obtain one of the abovementioned degrees before September 30th, are strongly encouraged to apply.

PhD student biosensors (miniaturised biosensors for marker-proteins) at Universiteit Hasselt

Overview
This Ph.D. mandate is situated within the project `Diamond-based impedimetric and nanophotonic biosensors for the detection of proteins` funded by the Research Foundation Flanders FWO. The central topic is the development of novel biosensing technologies for the fast detection of marker proteins in blood samples. Special attention will be paid to markers with a relevant role in the diagnosis of cancers and cardiovascular diseases. The starting point are nano- and en microstructures (nanowires, waveguides) based on semiconducting materials such as synthetic diamond, silicon, and conjugated polymers, which serve as an immobilization platform for the coupling of specific receptor molecules.
