PhD student polymer chemistry at Universiteit of Hasselt

Overview
A motivated PhD student is sought to work in the framework of a FWO-funded project in the Polymer Reaction Design group in the department OBPC. The project aims at the development of novel semi-conductor polymer materials via controlled synthesis of poly(phenylene vinylene)s with defined microstructure and functionality. To reach this aim, the research is carried out at the interface of the fields of contemporary polymer synthesis, state-of-the-art polymer characterization and polymerization kinetics. Besides research, also a limited contribution in the didactic tasks of the department is expected from the candidate (assistance in (laboratory) exercises or guidance of internships).

PhD student polymer chemistry for biosensor and bio-analytical applications at Universiteit of Hasselt

Overview
In the context of the project "Analytical separations of complex samples using novel affinity matrices based on molecularly imprinted polymers" which has been financed by the special research fund of Hasselt University, it is possible to start as a PhD student in the research group OBPC. The topic of the PhD research is situated in the area of polymeric materials for application in biosensors and bio-analytical separations, with an emphasis on a number of synthetic organic chemical aspects of the research into molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs).

In addition to synthesis, there will be attention paid to both a complete characterization of the obtained materials with a variety of analytical techniques as well as the final application of these materials in sensors and separations. In the framework of this project, there will be active collaborations with a multidisciplinary team of research groups both within and outside Hasselt University. Besides research, also a limited contribution in the didactic tasks of the department is expected from the candidate ( assistance in (laboratory) exercises or guidance of internships).
