Postdoctoral Fellowships at Fields Institute
FIELDS INSTITUTE, TORONTO POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS 2012-13
Applications are invited for postdoctoral fellowship positions for the 2012-2013 academic year. The Thematic Program on Forcing and its Application will take place at the Institute July to December 2012. The fellowships provide for a period of engagement in research and participation in the activities of the Institute.
In addition to regular postdoctoral support, one visitor for each six-month program will be awarded the Institute`s prestigious Jerrold E. Marsden Postdoctoral Fellowship. There will also be a number of two year positions available connected to the Fields-Ontario fellowship. Applicants seeking postdoctoral fellowships funded by other agencies (such as NSERC or international fellowships) are encouraged to request the Fields Institute as their proposed location of tenure, and should apply to the Institute for a letter of invitation.

Grade 7: starting salary: £29,099 - £35,788 p.a.
Fixed term appointment of up to 7 months duration
Project : Trajectories of senescence through Markov models
A fixed-term research position of up to 7 months` duration, funded by the multidisciplinary New Dynamics of Ageing research programme, is available to work with Dr David Steinsaltz on statistical issues and mathematical models of trajectories of ageing, specifically as regards the analysis of high-frequency behavioural measures of ageing in model organisms. The ideal start date would be 1 December 2011. Other starting dates may be arranged, but the funding will end, at the latest, on 30 June, 2012
PhD position in electricity generation systems modeling at University of Leuv
I would like to draw your attention to a vacancy for a PhD in the TME group (http://www.mech.kuleuven.be/en/tme/research/energy_environment ) of the University of Leuven (http://www.kuleuven.be ), Belgium. Please forward this message to potentially interested candidates.
Focus of this PhD is on the modeling of electricity generation in future low carbon power systems. Demand-supply balancing in systems consisting of large amounts of intermittent renewables, nuclear and fossil-fired power plants with carbon capture and storage will pose important challenges in the future. Advanced modeling techniques are required to address these issues at hand. This PhD has a technical focus (electrical/mechanical), but also relates to techno-economic and energy policy aspects.
