Leverhulme Trust PhD Scholarship in Historical Studies at University of Leicester
The School of Historical Studies at the University of Leicester is proud of its longstanding reputation for historical research of international quality. Our teaching is rated "excellent" by the UK Quality Assurance Agency and 90% of our research was judged to be making an international impact in the last national Research Assessment Exercise (December 2008). Our particular research strengths are in Urban History, English Local History, Medieval History, Eighteenth-Century History, Financial and Economic History, American History, and Modern British and European History.
We are delighted to offer this studentship, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, to allow a new PhD researcher to join our research community from October 2011.
PhD Student in Multimedia at Universiteit Hasselt
The research is situated in the EDM participation to the new research program of the research department `Future Internet: Networks, Media and Services` of the IBBT, the Flemish strategic ICT research centre (http://www.ibbt.be/). EDM is the scientific lead of the area `visual computing` within this program, planning research on 3D Internet. While the envisaged research on 3D Internet also includes computer graphics and computer vision, the vacant scholarship focuses on the network aspects and optimization of multimedia data streams. The specific research subject of the PhD will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate.
PhD student computer science, specialisation `human-computer interaction` at Universiteit Hasselt
More info on EDM and the research at EDM can be found at http://www.edm.uhasselt.be/ We offer a challenging research position in EDM, one of the larger research institutes at UHasselt and a dynamic work environment hosting about 60 researchers. The applicant will be part of the Human-Computer Interaction division of EDM, an established research group approaching HCI from the perspective of user-centred software engineering.
The research is situated in the domain Human-Computer Interaction. More specific, the applicant will be focusing on Interaction Modelling. This implies investigating and realizing notations, models and tools to design, prototype and ultimately build highly-interactive systems. Examples are the partly automatic realization of the interactive features of virtual environments, interaction with large (multitouch) displays and interaction with distributed ubicomp setups.
