[Germany] Postdoctoral Research Fellow on Proteomics at Friedrich-Schiller-University

Overview
The Centre for Innovation Competence SEPTOMICS at the Friedrich-Schiller-University is offering a postdoctoral position on Proteomics in the “Host Septomics” group at the University Hospital Jena headed by Prof. Hortense Slevogt. The ability to perform the job will be the primary consideration, thus, we encourage all – regardless of their personal background and status – to apply. The tentative start date is February 1st, 2011 or soon thereafter, and the position is limited to 3 years.

The “Host Septomics” group wants to analyse the cellular responses to an infection with the most common bacterial sepsis pathogens on a molecular level. Our goal is to establish integrative models linking intracellular signal transduction, gene expression dynamics and ultimate cellular responses in vitro and in vivo using statistical modelling approaches to investigate the pathogenesis of sepsis. On the basis of the compiled models we hope to identify novel biomarkers to diagnose septic infections unequivocally and as early as possible and to predict the immune status of patients (www.septomics.de).

DAAD Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists

Overview
The fellowships are offered annually through the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. The fellowships are announced between June and August each year, after which application forms and information leaflets are made available by the embassy or the DAAD Information Center. The complete application has to be at the embassy around mid October (check website for announcement at "DAAD Newsflash"). The fellowships are initially granted for one year (preceded by a six-month language course if appropriate). The scholarship may be extended if the project undertaken by the scholarship holder makes a prolonged stay necessary, provided good progress has been made. The fellowships are open to exellently-qualified graduates from universities, faculty members and researchers at research institutes of national importance.
